As the Turkish ready-mixed concrete industry, we achieved one of the first in terms of sustainability. On this occasion, I congratulate Akçansa, a member of our association, which is entitled to receive the Responsible Sourcing System Certificates. Finally, I would like to invite our ready-mixed concrete, cement, aggregate and precast industries to join this system.”

Akçansa General Manager Umut Zenar highlighted that they are working for the sustainability of concrete, the most common construction material in the world, and said, “We have proven our compliance with the international norms on responsible sourcing and we have crowned our achievement with these certificates. These certificates we have received for the Gebze Ready-Mixed Concrete Plant and Büyükçekmece Cement Factory are a pride for both our industry and our country.”

About Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC)

A group of international organizations in the concrete and cement sector came together to begin the process of developing an international responsible sourcing certification system for the cement and concrete sector in 2013. Industry representatives signed an agreement to develop a responsible sourcing certification system for concrete, cement and aggregates during the International Concrete Sustainability Conference in Medellín, Colombia in 2014. As a result, The Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) was officially founded in 2016

The CSC is committed to accelerating sustainability and responsible sourcing within the cement and concrete sector. It sets a leading example for the general public and private sector by contributing to the growing public awareness of, and commitment to, sustainable development. The certification system was developed by industry experts; representatives from non-governmental organizations participated in a stakeholder consultation process that was led by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the world’s largest and most diverse environmental network. The CSC system provides insight about to which level is a company operating in an environmentally, socially and economically responsible way. The CSC certification covers raw materials, their source or provenance; the concrete manufacturing process and a range of social and environmental matters. The responsible sourcing certification system helps in providing credible and independent evidence of sustainable sourcing practices to share with customers. Whilst empowering customers and manufacturers to make environmentally supportive decisions, it allows public authorities to achieve environmental targets.
