The project “THBB Concrete R&D and Technology Consultancy Center” being implemented within the scope of Financial Support Program for Innovative and Creative Istanbul of Istanbul Development Agency (ISTKA) positions Turkey as a significant hub for concrete R&D.
The studies conducted reveal the fact that one of the significant reasons for earthquake destructions is the use of non-standard concrete as well as the project and implementation errors. It is known that more than 70 percent of the population in Turkey live in the areas “for which the earthquake risk is high” and over 6,7 million houses are not resistant against earthquakes and in need of renewal.
It has been well understood that for the urban transformation, the earthquake-resistant structures are really crucial, this fact has resulted in the necessity of a research center that can fulfill the needs of the sector. Advanced-level concrete analyses such as tests and researches on concrete petrography, service life, durability, resistance to earthquakes and special concrete designs have been implemented in the center. This center will serve both national and international manufacturers of concrete, cement, chemical admixtures and construction contractor companies.
By undersigning a significant project in line with such developments, “Turkish Ready Mixed Concrete Associaition Concrete R&D and Technology Consultancy Center” was founded within the scope of Financial Support Program for Innovative and Creative Istanbul of Istanbul Development Agency (ISTKA).
